Don’t do this…Don’t do that… So often we look at christianity as a list of rules and it seems so limiting. Its almost like God is doing his best to make our life no fun. Some of us are left asking the question, “But why???” and it seems like for one reason or another, there is never anyone who can answer our questions. For some, the limitations cause us to walk aways from the rules and christianity because they don’t make sense or line up with our fleshly desires.
But what if there were answers? What if there were real reasons that God said, “You shall not…” What if the rules were not limitations but rather protection from harming yourself. Would you walk away then or obey them to protect yourself?
What are some common “rules of Christianity?” What are somethings you think the Bible says we are not allowed to do?
For you personally, which rules ‘make sense?’ Why?
Which rules are harder for you to understand or for you to want to follow? Why?
What makes it difficult for you to follow God’s rules?
How do God’s guidelines align with what you desire for your future- or how don’t they match up?
Do you think you’ll look back when your older and say, ‘man I wish I broke more of God’s rules…’ or ‘man, I wish I heeded God’s warning?’ Remember, 1 John 5:3 tells us that loving God is means keeping his commandments and his commandments are not burdensome. If there are rules that right now are a burden to you, identify those and spend some time seeking Him about them this week.
