“Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.” –Acts 13:3

The Lord reaches the lost and builds His church through people—people that have been gripped by the power of the Holy Spirit, heard His call and said with the prophet Isaiah, “Here am I. Send me!”

John & Jacqueline White

One of the joys of my life for the past several years has been serving Jesus alongside my good friend Pastor John White. His incredible gift of proclaiming God’s Word and willingness to be used of the Lord wherever and whenever called upon, has been a blessing to this ministry in ways that words cannot describe. I can’t begin to count the number of times I have sought John’s wisdom and counsel in understanding the Word of God, how to preach difficult Scriptural texts, discern various circumstances, how to properly give guidance to God’s people and so on. I will forever believe and be thankful to our gracious Lord for sending him here in perfect timing.

A recurring topic of our conversation together over the years is that when the Lord calls His people to a work, we should, like the disciples before us, immediately drop our nets and follow Him. What a thrill it is to be watching John & Jackie White do this with the new Village Church of Byron. Beginning Sunday, December 24th the Village Church will officially begin having weekly, Sunday morning gatherings. This exciting work is a completely autonomous body of believers seeking to reach their community with the gospel. I’m so humbled that the Rock Church, along with other kingdom-minded ministries, will be able to offer prayer and support to the Village as they begin this journey. Sunday, September 10th will be John & Jacqueline’s final Sunday at the Rock as we prayerfully send out the Village Church team with great anticipation of what God will do next.

Todd & Lisa Deering

I have been equally privileged to serve with someone so uniquely gifted in the area of children’s ministry as Lisa Deering. Lisa, along with the amazing dedication of her husband Todd, has directed the pre-school ministry at the Rock for the past 2 years. Todd & Lisa’s heart for children to know the truth of God’s Word has been nothing short of anointed from Heaven. They haven’t just cared for the children, but entire families, including my own. They recently moved to the Bancroft area where they gave themselves to a season of much prayer in seeking God’s will for their next season of life. After repeated confirmation from the Lord, the Deering family has been called beyond the shadow of a doubt to go with the Village Church of Byron and continue availing themselves to the work of the Kingdom. I am so thrilled to be able to have a front row seat to this divine journey that God has put them on, and thankful for the precious time we were able to serve side by side with them.  This coming weekend, August 26-27 will be Todd and Lisa’s final weekend leading the pre-school ministry at the Rock as they fully commit themselves to the planning and preparation of the Village Church.

The Lord of the Harvest

When people are raised up in our midst and sent out by the Lord, it is a sign that God is powerfully at work in this ministry. When people are called to go, it can be a bittersweet moment. I won’t pretend like it isn’t difficult for me to watch such incredible people walk in a new calling where I won’t be with them every day. Then I think back to what Jesus called us to do. He never told us to raise up disciples and hoard them to ourselves. Rather, He said,

“…beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

We continue to pray for this. God is listening…and He is answering. Praise the Lord!

John, Jacqueline, Todd, Lisa & all those called to the Village Church: I am honored to have been your pastor. The work you are doing now makes every day of ministry worth it and gives me strength and excitement for the future. Please know, you have a faithful partner and friend in the Rock Church. We love you guys!
